🍽️ Sweet and Sour Meatballs Recipe
🧆 For the Meatballs:
- 500g (1 lb) ground beef or chicken
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
🍍 For the Sweet and Sour Sauce:
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 cup pineapple juice (from canned pineapple)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (for thickening)
- 1 small bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 cup pineapple chunks (optional)
👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Make the Meatballs:
- In a bowl, mix all meatball ingredients together.
- Roll into small balls (about 1 inch wide).
- Fry in a pan with a little oil until browned on all sides, or bake at 200°C (400°F) for 15–20 minutes.
2. Make the Sauce:
- In a saucepan, mix ketchup, vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, and pineapple juice.
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add chopped bell peppers and pineapple chunks. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Stir in cornstarch-water mixture to thicken the sauce. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.
3. Combine:
- Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce and stir well.
- Let simmer for 5–10 minutes so flavors blend.
✅ Serving Suggestions:
- Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
- Garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds.
